National Committee To Free the Cuban Five Bulletin

CBC News Covers the Five, Features René, Olga, and Daughters

Last week, the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) broadcast an extremely positive and moving 13-minute news segment on the Cuban Five. The mini-documentary tells the complete story of the Cuban Five, featuring René González. It has interviews with René's wife, Olga Salanueva, his daughter Irma, and one of the Five's appeals attorneys, Leonard Weinglass, who gives an outstanding description of the case. The video also shows a large amount of historical footage. It's really a remarkably informative piece, and can be used as a great introduction to, or as an update on, the case of the Five.

The video is on the front page of our website, available for online viewing or downloading in QuickTime (.mov) or Windows Media (.wmv) formats.

A second video newly available on our website was actually shot last September 12 by Al Jazeera English television (worldwide audience of 125 million), coinciding with the demonstrations in Washington, D.C. on the 10th anniversary of the arrest of the Five heroes. It features a 4-minute interview with Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five.

Both of these videos are of tremendous significance, not just for their content, but because of the large audiences they were able to reach.

Now is the time to encourage even more newscasters to follow the example of CBC and Al Jazeera.
